How we choose assessments

Assessments are tailored to individual client needs. Each assessment evaluates skills and deficits. In the section below, you can read about the different assessments that can be used prior to and during treatment.

Assessments that MAY be used Prior to Treatment

Functional Behavior Assessment

This assessment occurs at the beginning of services. A BCBA , possibly with the help of an RBT, will conduct an interview with the family, observe the family, and review the data to create the best individualized intervention for your child.

Practical Functional Assessment (PFA)

This occurs at the start of services when the BCBA uses the interview conducted with the family and applies the findings to the clients. The PFA is used to see why the behavior is occurring and what intervention would help the child not engage in the behavior.

Behavioral Health Index

This assessment determines the critical skills, behavior management, and health repertoires. This assessment is conducted several times throughout treatment. The results show how progress is made throughout treatment.

Motivational Assessment Scale-II

This assessment is used to assist with determining the function of the behavior. The function of the behavior is important to know when determining the best replacement behaviors and interventions.

Socially Savvy Checklist

This checklist assesses social skills such as joint attention, play skills, communication, and more. This checklist will be used to determine social skill strengths and weaknesses.

Assessments that MAY be used during Treatment

ABLLS-R

This assessment is used to determine deficits in communication, academics, self-help, and many other skills.

AFLS

This assessment is a daily living skill-focused intervention to help increase independence in the clients's daily life.

EARLY START DENVER MODEL

This assessment is used for young clients to increase skill deficits including communication, social emotional, and cognitive skills.

PEAK

Peak is an assessment that focuses on "learning how to learn" and helps the client conquer deficits and create more flexible thinking.

Preference Assessment

This assessment is performed to determine what the client prefers which may be used as reinforcement during treatment. Preference assessments are completed frequently as client preferences change.

VB-MAPP

This assessment is a speech-focused intervention to increase functional communication skills.
